About the Books
Who We Are & Our Journey
We're Marissa & Shawn Book,
founders of Threaded By The Books!
Our journey began in 2024 after the birth of our third son. Like many parents, we quickly realized just how fast time passes and how precious those early memories become. As we watched our children grow, we found ourselves holding onto tiny baby clothes that carried so many special moments and wondering how we could preserve them in a meaningful way.
That's when I, Marissa, discovered the idea of a keepsake sweatshirt and immediately knew the perfect outfit to transform. I shared the vision with Shawn, and together we set out to bring it to life. We borrowed Shawn’s mother’s single-needle embroidery machine, started researching through YouTube and any other how-to video’s, experienced lots of trial and errors until we finally created our very first keepsake sweatshirt—and instantly fell in love with the process.
From there, we started learning from Shawn’s mother, Mira, who has taught us even more about sewing and keepsake making, which is how we learned how to create memory bears, keepsake pillows, quilts and more.
What started as a way to preserve our own family memories soon grew into something much bigger. We discovered the joy of transforming cherished clothing and textiles into beautiful, personalized keepsakes and we also found joy in working together as a family, helping each other grow as sewists and now, business owners.
At the heart of our business is a passion for repurposing and upcycling. We love giving meaningful items a second life while helping families preserve the memories woven into them. As Threaded By The Books continues to grow, our goal is to build a sustainable brand that creates lasting keepsakes while reducing waste and encouraging a more thoughtful approach to the materials we use.
Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of preserving your most treasured memories. We are honored to create keepsakes that tell your story and can be cherished for a lifetime.

Our Purpose Behind Upcycling & Recycling
"At the heart of what we do is a commitment to repurposing and upcycling.
While we love creating unique, handcrafted-keepsakes, what inspires us most
is giving new life to materials that already have a story to tell."
By transforming pre-loved clothing, blankets, ties, scarves, and other cherished textiles into meaningful keepsakes, we help preserve memories while reducing waste. Our vision extends beyond fabric, as we continue exploring innovative ways to upcycle a variety of materials and create something beautiful from something old.
Sustainability is one of our core values. That's why we make every effort to repurpose not only our materials, but our packaging as well. Many of our orders are shipped in reused boxes and packaging supplies, helping to minimize environmental impact. We also encourage our customers to join us in this effort by reusing and repurposing materials whenever possible.
Together, as a community, we can make a positive difference for our environment through simple acts of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Every small step matters, and we're proud to be part of that journey.

Digitizing & What Its For
Digitizing for embroidery is the process of converting artwork (like a logo or image) into a digital stitch file that an embroidery machine can read. Specialized software is used to map out stitch types, density, and paths, turning the design into commands the machine’s needle follows to sew on fabric.
Digitizing is used for custom embroidery because embroidery machines cannot sew directly from a logo or image file. The artwork must first be converted into a digital stitch file that contains detailed instructions the machine can understand. During the digitizing process, specialized software assigns the correct stitch types, stitch density, directions, and sewing paths for the design. This ensures the embroidery is accurate, clean, and durable, while preventing issues like gaps, puckering, or broken threads. In short, digitizing transforms artwork into a machine-readable blueprint, allowing the embroidery machine to recreate the design precisely on fabric.
*Disclaimer: there is a digitizing fee for all custom logo’s/ pictures*
Why is there a digitizing fee?
Before your logo or artwork can be embroidered, it must first be digitized. Digitizing is the process of converting your design into a specialized embroidery file that tells the embroidery machine exactly how to stitch your design, including stitch types, stitch direction, density, and sequencing. This process is completed using professional digitizing software and requires time, precision, and technical expertise to ensure your design embroiders cleanly and accurately on fabric.
The digitizing fee is a one-time charge that covers the creation of your custom embroidery file. Once your design has been digitized, the file is saved and can typically be reused for future orders at no additional digitizing cost, unless changes to the design require a new file. Different file types (such as for hats, left chest or full back pieces) will be priced differently due to size of the design. Bundle deals are offered if you would like to get 2 or more file types per design.
